Among
the most remarkable pieces from these novelties, Ramón
Jiménez’ rondeña deserves the best consideration,
for being a sort of development of Paco de Lucia’s latest ideas
in this palo. A really somptuous composition, a new standard in the
rondeña style. Miguel Angel Cortés
again, with his very inspired granaína, as well as Moraíto
for his very pleasant and joyful (and very easy to perform) Romance
de Huelva. I am glad to propose also another soleá from Tomatito,
a stage perfomance dating from 1994, where one will find superb and
unknown falsetas from the legendary tocaor.

| Bulería |
Fiesta
en Jerez |
|
LP:
Flamenco Guitar |
Another
bulería from Paco Peña, exploring alternately phrygian
and major key in A. Maybe not his most famous one, certainly one of
the most interesting.

| Soleá |
Patio

|
LP:
The Art of the Flamenco Guitar |
Certainly
his most personal and beautiful work por soleá.

| Tangos |
Puertatierra |
|
La
guitarra flamenca de Paco Peña |
His
basic stuff in this palo, his personal rhythmical stamp. Not difficult
to play, apart of one or two runs that need some mastery at the tango
tempo.

La
Alcazaba |
|
La
guitarra flamenca de Paco Peña |
His
proper version of this traditional palo; beautiful falsetas, with
a conclusion that strongly reminds the reference piece in the style:
Paco de Lucía ‘s En la Caleta.

Duelo

|
LP:
Arte gitano |
Found on a recording that escaped notice, this composition contains
beautiful falsetas, not played anywhere else by the master. It would
have been a tragedy to loose this part of his work.

| Granaína |
Los

|
LP:
Ritmos de España |
The
magic with Sabicas is that one never ends finding jewels within his
infinite legacy. Another great moment, another great page added to
the flamenco repertory.

Jardines del Albaícin |
|
LP:
La guitarra de Sabicas |
Another
piece that had to be transcribed. His longest and best achieved tientos
in A key.

LP:
Corazón y bordón |
Original
and smart ideas in the style, and as usual with Cepero, very easy
to play

Abolengo |
|
LP:
Abolengo |
Cepero
is the absolute master of compás and symbol of the Jerez style.
Here again very easy stuff, as well as an unequalable ratio « musical
efficiency/difficulty to play ».

LP:
Guitarras y flamenco |
Escudero
will remain definitely as one of the greatest flamenco creators. Here
is his personal work in the serrana style.

| Manuel
Cano |
| Guajira |
De Cadiz a la Habana |
|
LP:
Temas flamencos para concierto |
Tuneful
palo, turning to be another jewel under Cano’s fingers. As usual
with Manuel Cano, a piece aimed at every true guitar lover, whatever
his personal favourite style can be.
. |
| Soleá |
Romance
a la soleá |
|
LP:
Temas flamencos para concierto |
This
piece must definitely be listed in the catalogue of the most beautiful
soleas ever recorded. Clearly taking place in the Montoya style, it
provides superb Cano’ stamp falsetas, especially the tremolo
variation. Adding the astounding sound of Manuel Cano, the guitar
seems here to be playing in the nave of a cathedral.

A
perfect model of clasicism. An excellent opportunity to remind this
fabulous gypsy tocaor, who left too soon the flamenco scene.
